On November 24, Carlsberg Azerbaijan marked a significant milestone for both the company and the national brewing industry with the successful tasting of the first beer batch brewed using locally produced malt. This achievement marks an important step toward expanding local sourcing and strengthening a resilient, sustainable value chain.
The milestone follows the successful pilot production of the first malt batches at the Promalt production facility in Imishli. The event was attended by partners from Azersheker, Promalt, and Azersun Holding, as well as government representatives, reflecting the strategic importance of this development for the country’s agricultural and industrial sectors.
Speaking at the event, Alius Antulis, Managing Director of Carlsberg Azerbaijan, stated:

“This is a historic milestone for Xırdalan beer and for the Azerbaijani brewing industry. The successful tasting of beer brewed with locally produced malt is the result of years of strong partnerships, innovation, and dedication. It demonstrates the strategic value of expanding local sourcing, and this achievement is only the beginning. I would like to extend my sincere thanks to all our partners and everyone involved in making this milestone possible.”
The use of locally sourced raw materials contributes to enhanced production sustainability and allows for greater control over product quality, taste, and aroma. Carlsberg Azerbaijan will continue to work closely with its partners to further develop the potential of Azerbaijani malt and advance local value creation within the brewing industry.
