Carlsberg Azerbaijan and partners laid the foundation for a malthouse in Imishli

On August 8, a groundbreaking ceremony was held for a new malting barley processing plant, which will create a value chain for beer production in Azerbaijan.

The project will be implemented on the territory of the Imishli Sugar Factory of Azersun Holding co-invested by Azerseker LLC, Azersun Agricultural Products LLC, and Azerbaijan Investment Company. Initially, 11 thousand tons of malting barley to be processed at the plant, increasing this number to 17 thousand tons at a later stage. The Company will fully satisfy the needs of Carlsberg Azerbaijan in raw materials.

Deputy Minister of Economy of the Republic of Azerbaijan Samad Bashirli and Deputy Minister of Agriculture Sarvan Jafarov took part at the plant's groundbreaking ceremony.

Alius Antulis, the Managing Director of Carlsberg Azerbaijan, stressed that the plant construction is a major step in the localization process of the primary production for brewing. The Company's long-term strategy involves the beer brewing sourced entirely with local raw materials.

Note: Since 2019, Carlsberg Azerbaijan and Azerseker have been implementing a project to grow malting barley locally. Today, the malting barley is grown in Shamkir, Yevlakh, and Aghjabadi regions.
